Lightview for WordPress

Introduction

Lightview is similar to Lightbox yet superior to Lightbox. Since version 2.0, Lightview has been able to overlay not only images but also videos, iframed webpages, and almost anything! It works with all popular browsers. The original Lightview JS is a project by Nick Stakenburg.

The first photo is an individual one, while the rest four are grouped together.

The above three images are linking to: 1). A Flash color scheme generator 2). A QuickTime movie trailer 3). A webpage.

Installation

  1. Download the WordPress plugin, extract the "lightview" folder somewhere.
  2. Download the Lightview script from its official website, put the 3 folders "js", "images" and "css" into the "lightview" folder from the WordPress plugin. Choose to replace if asked.
  3. Upload the "lightview" folder to /wp-content/plugins/, then activate it.

Why so complicated? Please understand that Lightview is no longer free. Nick Stackenburg was generous enough to approve the redistribution of this WordPress plugin, so please respect his decision and pay for it like I did. Go to the official Lightview project page and you'll find the way to purchase a license and download the script.

How to Use

  • For a single image:
    <a href="foobar.jpg" class="lightview">foobar</a>
  • For a set of images:
    <a href="foo.jpg" class="lightview" rel="gallery[foobar]">foo</a>
    <a href="bar.jpg" class="lightview" rel="gallery[foobar]">bar</a>
  • For a QuickTime movie:
    <a href="quicktime.mov" class="lightview" title="">QuickTime</a>
  • For a Flash video with title and size limits:
    <a href="flash.swf" class="lightview" title="Title::::width:320,height:240">video</a>
  • For a webpage (iframe) with title and description, in fullscreen:
    <a href="http://www.google.com" class="lightview" title="Title::Description::fullscreen:true">Google</a>

    classic is still classic,
    i dont think lightview is the one can substitude lightbox, which we are not tired of.

    Great plugin, but I am getting a 404 for effects.js which isn't there in the zip file. In fact your page is requesting it to and you don't have it either.

    Hi !
    I used the script and it worked perfectly fine with Firefox, Safari and IE7 but I got a black screen only with IE6.

    I did change the version of lightview.js with the most recent update from the developper website but it doesn't change anything.

    Do you know what I can do to solve this ?

    Thanks for the plugin.

    The Lightview website shows that it's only free for non-commercial use. I didn't read that here, you should point that out.

    However, how can I show it up at the page's loading event?

    I try to use Lightbox.show() but it errors.

    Great plugin but on checking out the documentation on the original authors site http://www.nickstakenburg.com/projects/lightview/
    I see that you must purchase a license even for a personal blog. I think you should make this clear.

    hi, i used one of your designs on wordpress.com, and with the custom CSS i bought, i changed the colors and the header. i was wondering if you would give me permission to take off the link to your page and the bottom if i put it in my blogroll instead? if so, how i could go about doing that? i am new to CSS.

    hello..

    i have spent days roaming around the internet searching for steps on how to use lightview on blogger. since i can't find that, i made a free account on wordpress. but i'm all lost now. i need to have a certain plugin? how's that? an idiot's guide for this one would be greatly appreciated. i hope you can make one for me.

    oh and i already bought the $3-license for lightview. please help me on this.
