Moved to (mt) Media Temple

(mt) mediatempleMoved to (mt) Media Temple on a (dv) VPS and upgraded to WordPress 2.2.

Why to move again? Simply because (mt) is the best webhost provider on the planet. And very coincidently, my site became unaccessible in China a few hours after I made the order. It's been confirmed that my SurpassHosting IP address is blocked by those bloody devils for unknown reasons.

I didn't want to say "SurpassHosting sucks!", though the ftp connections were slow for me, and unstable, database sometimes went down, no ssh access. I requested SurpassHosting to transfer me onto an accessible server so that I can get my necessary data back, but they refused to help. Instead, they "kindly" offered 2 options: Purchase a Dedicated IP or Upgrade from shared hosting to a VPS/Dedicated Server. Suck? Okay thanks for the incredible solutions, I'm now on a VPS with a dedicated IP, but from another company which absolutely surpasses you SurpassHosting. lol

    Thanks for the info. Having had to switch hosts its really hard to determine where to make the move. There are so many options and I refuse to believe anything I read on those reviews (ie affiliate sales) websites. How did you figure out Media Temple was going to be your new host?

    I have worked for mt from 2003 to 2005, I must say, by far they are the best hosting company on the internet. Made a great move.

    totally outrageous! i've been using surpass for several months then the ip got blocked last month. after negotiating, they offered me two solustions(as you mentioned above). i paid 2 dollars yesterday to have a try and got a new dedicated ip this morning and it did work. i upgraded to wp2.2, installed two new plugins, then...just a few hours later, this NEW ip is blocked again! with in hours...!
    absof*ckinglutely outrageous!
    MT should be good...but $500 a year???

    @Dave: I don't know how to explain, yet I do have a piece of suggestion for you. Order your own (mt) and evaluate it for a while. They have 100% money back guarantee so don't worry!

    well, i prefer Dreamhost, i don't know if is the best of the world but yes the most cheap in relation quality-price; wait a moment, quality??? well, for one year it run very well ^^, before i don't know, for me, the best.

    @verofenix: But you'll never have an idea about how dangerous it is for us Chinese ppl to host our sites on a crowded, shared server with a shared IP.

    (mt) is choice. I am running (gd) server lite version, although sometime it caused small downtime.

    What is it that Media Temple does to turn all of it's clients into evangelists? Is it the customer service? The actual servers? Everybody who's anybody is MT, and they proudly display their link? Are they getting kickbacks? Do they FTP you cash?

    Hi,

    You have a very smart site, nice template, easy on the eyes, eloquent and informative. But Media Temple STARTS at $50 per month. I bet you are paying far more for add-ons and customer service. I’m looking to change from blogger and I would like a template like yours.

    How is the move going? I used to have (mt) before. They are a really great hosting company!

    @reid: What is your problem? (mt) Media Temple is one of the greates "public" hosts out there. Their WebAdmin in the (gs) Grid-Server is just awesome. Many times I wished it was open to use on private servers aswell.

    @氧气层: 我跟另外9位朋友一起合租的, 并不是我独用一个(dv). (gs)上的GPU大概是用来保护你的空间, 当基于某种原因你网站的访问量突然剧增时, 不至于宕机或出现异常.

    Hi,

    I have been having the same problems with my former host (godaddy.com). Its just that China blanket bans IP ranges for budget hosting providers that cannot guarantee that they have no objectionable content.

    How is MT? Do you know if it is accessible in China? So far no one could tell me...as I've been thinking about going to MT it for awhile now...

    I don't see Media Temple on there, and I know the guy who made this site must have asked them. I don't see how he couldn't have. Either way, MT's not all it's cracked up to be. Buzzword cluster hosting.

    I joined MT in November last year, when they just launched their much hyped Grid-Service. After more than six month havy performance troubles, I had to move my sites to another provider, as my business was loosing customers because of MTs lousy performance. Worth, customer service at MT is not existing - all you get is boiler plate text. I don't understand all the hype about MT - especially among web geeks. BTW: I am now with Mosso (Rackspace powered Grid-Server). Very reliable and very happy.
